This textbook provides an introduction to the theories, craft and practices of strategic communication in politics, diplomacy, public administration, civil society or business.

John Williams, former Director of Communication at the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office, is a Visiting Fellow at King’s College London’s Centre for Strategic Communication. He has been advisor to the Palestinian Authority and to the Syrian Opposition at the United Nations talks in Geneva. A former journalist, he is author of Robin Cook: Principles and Power.

Kevin Marsh is the director of OffspinMedia and a former BBC news programme editor – he edited The World and One and Today between 1993 and 2006. He is the author of Stumbling Over Truth – an insider’s account of the row between the BBC and the Blair government over Dr David Kelly’s revelations about the September 2002 dossier on Iraq’s “weapons of mass destruction”.
